David Omenukor Foundation and Bonnyike Cancer Foundation are jointly holding the first ever World Cancer Day sensitization march in Mbaise on February 4, 2023. Recall in 2022 David Omenukor Foundation held its first Colorectal Awareness month excercise in secondary schools across the three Local Governments in Mbaise with a quizz competition on basic knowledge of cancer and its prevention. Winners and Runners up went home with handsome rewards.
The sensitization Walkaton this year will begin at 8.00 AM from the Mater Ecclesia Cathedral Ahiara to the Ahiara Health center while the sensitization lecture on cancer takes place from 9.00 AM
On February 8th, 2023, David Omenukor Foundation also in partnership with Brecan Breast Cancer Association, will hold awareness lectures on Breast and Cervical Cancers in Egbu Girl’s Secondary School and Emekuku Comprehensive Secondary School by 7.30 and 10.00 AM respectively as part of the activities to commemorate this year’s World Cancer Day. World Cancer Day is an international day marked on the 4th of February every year to raise awareness of the dangers of cancer and advocate strategies for its prevention, detection, and treatment. The day is organized and led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Day Declaration of 2008.
The theme of this year’s celebration is ” Close the Care Gap,” focusing on identifying barriers that prevent people from accessing the cancer help they need.
The World Cancer Day is also used to mobilize everyone, including governments, corporate bodies, religious organizations, non-profit organizations, communities, and individuals who have the resources to support this worthy cause.
David Omenukor Foundation, which is a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), has been championing these crusades in Imo State for over 7 years.
