Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike (JP), has congratulated the Super Eagles for successfully defending the Unity Cup title after their commanding 3-0 victory over Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in the final played in London on Saturday.

In a statement made available to the media, Agu-Ejidike described the victory as a significant boost for Nigerian football and a source of pride for millions of football fans across the country.

The former President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) praised the players and technical crew for their impressive performances throughout the competition, noting that the team’s display reflected resilience, discipline and a renewed sense of purpose.

He particularly commended the coaching crew for introducing new players into the national team, stating that the debutants justified their inclusion with outstanding performances that have strengthened confidence in the future of the Super Eagles.

According to Agu-Ejidike, although Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup remains disappointing, the Unity Cup success should serve as a foundation for rebuilding the national team and restoring its status among the world’s leading football nations.

He urged the players and officials not to be carried away by the victory but to remain focused on the challenges ahead, stressing that consistency, hard work and proper planning would be vital to achieving long-term success.

The sports philanthropist expressed optimism that the blend of emerging talents and experienced players, coupled with the support of stakeholders, would help Nigeria return to the summit of international football.

Agu-Ejidike also called on Nigerians to continue supporting the national team in both good and difficult times, describing football as a powerful instrument for national unity and global recognition.

The Nnewi-born sports enthusiast equally congratulated Rangers International FC of Enugu on winning the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.

He described Rangers’ achievement as a reward for the club’s rich tradition, resilience, sound management and commitment to excellence.

Agu-Ejidike also praised Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for his support of sports development and his commitment to the success of the Flying Antelopes.

The Patron of the Nigerian Football Supporters Club (NFSC) further commended the players, coaching staff, management and supporters of Rangers for their collective efforts, expressing confidence that the club would represent Nigeria creditably in continental competitions.

He concluded by urging football administrators, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to sustain investment in grassroots and elite football development, insisting that such commitment remains essential to restoring Nigeria’s football glory on the continental and global stage.
