In a communique issued after her Congress , the body lined out the following as a means to improve the state’s image in sports…
(1) Selection of athletes must be based on merit to ensure fairness and overall performance.
(2) Adequate welfare packages should be provided for all athletes to avoid poaching by other states.
(3)The association calls on the governor of the state to release funds early for preparation and proper planning for these festivals.
(4)Swan also calls for the urgent renovation of the following facilities to enhance productivity by the athletes.
* Handball turf and stand at the grasshoppers stadium.
* Tartan tracks at the Dan Anyiam stadium.
* Swimming pool still under construction behind the stadium.
* provision of sports wheelchairs and kits for para athletes.
* The sports Commission should engage retired and experienced coaches if possible on part time bases.
* The body congratulates all the athletes that won medals in the last National Sports Festival in Ogun state and calls for their immediate employment by the state government.
* Swan urges Imo state government to host and celebrate athletes that won medals at the Edo 2020, Delta 2022, and Ogun 2024.This will serve as a moral booster and encouragement.
* The association encourages the ministry of sports and the sports Commission to organize regular training and refresher courses for coaches.
* Swan urges for the rejuvenation of secondary School games in the LGA’S to serve as a ground to fish out young talents that will replace the aging ones.
* The body calls for the acquisition of road Worthy buses eg marcopolo buses for team Imo.
* Swan urges the government to support the state football tram Heartland fc to ensure they return to the NPFL this season.
Swan appeals to the state government to improve the welfare package of Heartland queens players and officials to help motivate them to do much better.
* The body also appeals for support for kun khalifat fc by the state government to enable them gain promotion to the top flight.
* Swan Imo state chapter urges the NFF appeals committee ton expedite action in the alleged match fixing case involving Campos fc while ensuring a transparent process.
* The body expresses dissatisfaction with the apparels worn by the state contingents during the opening ceremony of the Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival and urges the authorities to ensure that future state Representatives appear professionally.
CONCLUSION
The body call on the Imo state government, ministry of sports, and the state sports Commission to act on the above resolutions swiftly for the growth and development of sports in the state.
