The Head of Media and Publicity, GTI Asset Management & Trust Limited and the Nigeria Football Fund (TNFF), Andrew Ekejiuba has said that the body is committed to take Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, to enviable height.
Speaking with Wakawaka Sports Extra, Ekejiuba noted that GTI bore a burden to put the league on a strong footing following the issues that has bedevilled the league over the years.
Ekejiuba, who believes that the NPFL should be an asset to the fans through strategic planning and investment added that the goal is ensure players from the league go on to represent the national team and showcase the league to the global audience.
“What you saw at the playoffs is just a teaser of what it’s going to come up next season. GTI are strategic partners to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
“We have looked backwards to see how our league was going. We needed to make the league transparent and enticing to woo sponsors and to satinise the league to attract sponsors.
“We bore a burden and took care of everything to put the league on a strong footing. Our league has been running with many baggages. Referees were owed for almost three years and we cleared those debts without any noise and GTI have been working gradually.
“We promise Nigeria fans that we will take this league to the world and polish it and there is no going back. We believe that football should be an assets. It belongs to every Nigerians.
“We are receiving support from fans who are buying into the Nigeria football funds. We are so happy to have developed the league with other leagues in the world.
“We sold the league to the world in terms of viewership in the championship playoffs. All the six clubs played out their hearts. Enyimba FC surprised every other team and conquered.
“The stage we are now is talking with strategic partners and investors who are ready to put their money into the league. The agreement we signed with the IMC is a ten-year contract which is renewable.
“The future is very bright for our football. We want to have players that will come out of the league to be able represent the country up to the Super Eagles status. We are going back to that era where to have at least 80% players in the national team.”
