The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as the “peaceful conduct and youth-friendly nature” of its primary elections.
The NYCN Chairman in Imo, Comrade Humphrey Osuji, said this while speaking with newsmen in Owerri, on Friday.
Osuji commended the APC in Imo for conducting the primary elections in a manner which left the state’s youths with hopes of fair representation and a vibrant political future.
He hailed the emergence of youths as flag bearers for different positions and urged the voting public to strongly consider giving youths a chance at political power.
“ We note with pride and satisfaction the emergence of Chukwudi Anyanwuocha, a young, well-educated, and competent lawyer as the flag bearer of the APC for the Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
“ This outcome affirms the growing recognition that the youth are not merely future leaders but capable leaders of today, and we pledge our support for him.
“ We observe that his emergence has generated genuine enthusiasm among young people across the constituency, many of whom now see in his candidacy a rare and direct stake in the political process “, he said.
He cautioned against any tendency to reverse the outcome, warning that such could not only breach public peace, but also profoundly demoralise the youth of the constituency, fracture party cohesion at the grassroots, and place the party at serious risk of losing the seat at the general election.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to peaceful, lawful, and constructive political engagement while calling on all stakeholders to do the same.
Our correspondent reports that also present at the briefing were Mr Vitus Ogbonna, the Organizing Secretary, NYCN Owerri Zone as well as the council’s coordinators for Ahiazu and Ezinihitte LGAs.
