Ahead of November 11, 2023 Imo governorship election, the candidate of Accord party, Ikenga Johnjude Uchenna Okere has enthused that he was building a super engine, as never seen before in Imo politics, which was certainly going to spring a big surprise in the state.
He likened the current avalanche of endorsements being enjoyed by the present government to “Building a beautiful Titanic” which the builder boasted that even God would not be able to sink.
Okere who made these assertions during a media parley with newsmen recently made it clear that it was his deliberate choice not to be in the ruling party, but remain in the opposition where expressed optimism to realize his dreams and aspirations, in line with his principle of life and convictions.
He said, “What I do in life is, if your values don’t resound with me, I don’t deal with you. If I cannot play the kind of game you play, I don’t come close to you. I know how many times people have come to me and told me, join PDP, join APC, help us do this or that. I normally tell them that it does not align with my own style of doing things, so, I rather remain where I am”.
He said Imo people are tired of fraudulent politicians and are currently looking for a person who can navigate the state off the storm it currently found itself.
The governorship candidate revealed that he left Labour Party when the party in Imo State started doing the same thing APGA did in 2019 which brought its failure.
He made it clear that he did not get the governorship ticket of Accord Party on a platter of gold, as it was keenly contested, including with stooges sponsored by external forces to destabilize the party’s structures.
The Ngor Okpala born politician asserted that he came out well prepared to contest for the governorship seat of Imo State and has all it takes to spring surprises, as according to him, with the right partnership he will be sworn-in as the next governor of the state after the election.
He pledged not to involve himself in castigating anybody, as he plans to have a very clean outing and will not condone anything that will pull him back because of bad energy, but will focus on building the kind of energy that will attract the support of Imo people.
Giving some tips on how his government will change the narrative in the state, Okere said, “We will be more strategic and committed than what we have ever had before. If you did not run a conservative and objective government, you are not going to make any headway. That is what we are currently suffering in the state.
“In our own mission, our promise to Ndi Imo is that we are going to cut down the cost of governance and objectively deploy funds to the right places. We will be extremely committed, with much emphasis on education, healthcare delivery. We are going to prioritize those basic and instrumental things that will be of benefit to the generality of Imolites”.
