The Commissioner for Sports in Imo State, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo said the issue delaying the scoreboard to be mounted at the Dan Anyiam Stadium is to ascertain the right location.
Recall that the contractor handling the project at the stadium and CEO of Monimichell Sports Construction, Mr Ebi Egbe pleaded with the state government to hasten up and install the scoreboard at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.
While speaking with Wakawaka Sports Extra on Global FM Sports Update, the commissioner noted that they wanted it to be mounted at the original place adding that they will study both options.
He said: “That is not our problem. We wanted the scoreboard to be located at the original place but he wanted it to move at a particular place and if it is mounted at the original place, it will be very visible.
“He is advising us where he feels is good and we are looking at the two options. The delay is not from him, either from the state. We are only studying where it should be mounted and that is what is delaying the scoreboard.”
On the welfare of the state-owned teams, Hon. Okonkwo said the state government remains committed to their welfare noting that no team will complain of being owed.
“Heartland FC, Heartland Queens and Sports Commission all went to present their laurels and also the cups they won respectively to His Excellency and they were warmly welcomed.
“And also to thank him for his huge investment in sports. His Excellency is a sports loving governor who have supported all sports in this administration.
“Since I joined the ministry from December to date, no sports person particularly Heartland FC and Heartland Queens will tell you they are being owed including all bonuses and other entitlements.
“The government is also encouraging them, making them know that there is life after this. That consciousness he gives to them and they are preparing.”
