Women’s Cricket Championship finals excitement and trophy will follow Team Edo all the way to Benin City, thanks to Peace Usen sterling bowling performance.
Edo State team won the trophy after defeating Akwa Ibom by 89 runs. Edo scored 128 and lost 5 wickets as Victory Igbinedion contributed 40 runs while Piety Lucky made 36 runs for Edo. However Edo state favourite player and Player of the Match winner was Peace Usen who dismissed 5 Akwa Ibom batters.
Although from Akwa Ibom Peace Usen took away peace from team Akwa Ibom as they attempted to reach the 128 runs target. Akwa Ibom performance was below expectations as they lost valuable players early. Salome Sunday contributed only 10 runs while Esther Sandy played 5 runs.
Despite losing bitterly to Edo state, Akwa Ibom players dominated the awards category of the Women’s Cricket championships as follows:
Best Bowler – Salome Sunday, Akwa Ibom
Best Batter – Esther Sandy, Akwa Ibom
Best Fielder -Inyene
Umoh, Akwa Ibom.
MVP – Peculiar Agboya, Edo State
All award winners went home with various prize money as Lagos State went home with third place trophy.
