A fierce showdown is in the offing when premier leaguers, Confluence Queens and Heartland Queens clash in Monday’s NWFL Super Six playoffs matchday 2 at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The Monday’s NWFL Super Six epic game will be the first time the sides will meet each other at that level of competition.
However, the sides are familiar enemies and rivals, too in the round leather game and actually played in the same group in the just concluded regular season with the Confluence City side enjoying the upper hands having taken four points from possible six off the Owerri side.
Recall, too that the Owerri mainstreams stopped the Watersmeet side’s title dreams in the 2023 Federation Cup round of 32 game.
Heading into the NWFL Super Six playoffs matchday 2, the Owerri landladies shared the spoils goalless with former champions and group mates, Nasarawa Amazons while the Lokoja-based side were humbled 5-1 by the ancient city side, Edo Queens.
The scenario is clear that the matchup will be tough as it looks like a must win for the sides in other to still keep the title chase in the yearly football showpiece alive and intact.
Of course, the Owerri side will still take up the garb of underdogs playing in the NWFL Super Six for the very first time unlike the opposite who have been on the rough path previously.
Heartland Queens’ manager, Obi Ogbala told anyone who cares to listen in post match chat after the barren game against Nasarawa Amazons that he wants to win the playoffs despite his debut status and will work hard to ensure that the dreams are achieved.
There may not be major shakeup in the squad that played a pulsating goalless draw against the Lafia side, the side’s talisman, Mary Lucky will be handed the baton to lead the onslaughts for winning goals to be assisted by top scorer, Chinedu Chinaka, on-the-field captain, Chimebere Opara and crafty winger, Onyinyechi Kalu. The middle will see the likes of Oluchi Okwara, Faith Samson, Chidinma Anaele and youngster Nwabueze Charles getting the pinpoint passes to the front women and the rearguards, Kelechi Orgii, Chinyere Iheoma, Oluomachi Onwere and Nnenna Williams will be intact to provide the watertight covers for the ever effective netminder, Uchenna Chukwu.
A victory for Heartland Queens in the clash against Confluence Queens will do well to bring her back to strong contention for the podium in the Owerri side first shot at the playoffs.
