Rivers Angels Hold Bayelsa Queens in Yenagoa

Rita Peters’ 84th-minute goal secured a draw for Rivers Angels against Bayelsa Queens in their Nigeria Women Football League Super Six Playoff encounter at Samson Siasia Stadium on Saturday.

Bayelsa Queens’ Fehintola Mabokanje had scored a penalty in the 54th minute, but Rivers Angels fought back to earn a point.

Despite dominating the game, Rivers Angels were denied a penalty in the 90th minute, and Blessing Okpe’s subsequent free kick hit the bar.

Head Coach Whyte Ogbonda praised his team’s determination and credited his substitutions for changing the game’s tempo.

Although satisfied with the draw, Coach Ogbonda acknowledged his team’s lapses, including lack of mobility and slow reactions. He vowed to address these issues before their next match against Edo Queens on Monday.

The coach also commended Rivers State government for their motivation, particularly the two million naira bonus from Hon. Commissioner Barr. Chris Green, which he believes will spur the players to work harder.

Rivers Angels’ next match is against Edo Queens on Monday the 20th of May by 12pm.
