Rivers Angels Ready For FC Robo Queens As NWFL Resumes

Rivers Angels will host FC Robo Queens at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium Port Harcourt as the 2nd round of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership resumes this Wednesday, February 14th, 2024.

The Jewel of Rivers won the first leg 2 – 1 in a game played at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Lagos during the first stanza of the league.

Wednesday’s reverse fixture sees the former champions seeking to pick the maximum points to maintain their position on the league table.

 

Rivers Angels are first on the log in their group with 14 points, followed by Bayelsa Queens and Edo Queens.

Speaking with Rivers Angels’ media captain of the team, Catherine Kenneth said the team has intensified their preparations ahead of the second round of the league, as they hope to maintain the lead on the league table. Kenneth also emphasized that the target is to win the league and qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

“We have been training, preparing so hard ahead of the next stanza of the league and come Wednesday match against FC Robo from Lagos, we hope to still maintain the league and at the end of the season, we expect to make it to Super 6 and eventually qualify for CAF champions league ”

Rivers Angel’s goal poacher Ezekiel Motunrayo is optimistic that the club has what it takes to beat FC Robo on Wednesday. Motunrayo scored and assisted in the 2 – 1 win during the first leg in Lagos. Having scored five goals so far this season, Motunrayo says that she hopes to end the season with 20 goals, and the team’s target is to make it to the CAF Champions League.

“We are fully prepared and ready for the game. I’m going to score on Wednesday. I’m very confident, and with the help of my teammates, I’m sure I can do it.

“I want to be the highest goal scorer of the league, I want to see my team at the top and we are going to do it. My target for the season is 20 goals and I’m working towards it”.

Another striker confident ahead of Wednesday’s game is Blessing Okpe. Okpe praised FC Robo for being a good team but believes her team has what it takes to win the game.

” We have been preparing for FC Robo, preparing so hard, and come tomorrow Wednesday, all we are expecting is total victory.

“FC Robo is a good team, and we know it’s not going to be easy, but with our hard work and God’s grace, I believe we would come out victorious.

” I believe we are all working hard to win the trophy. My target as Rivers Angels striker is to score 10 goals this season”.

Wednesday’s matchday will kick off at 4pm at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
