Sports Journalist living legend and veteran in Sports broadcasting, Ambassador Amar Ignis has added another feather to his cap as he bagged the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN FCT),Chapter Meritorious Award as an “Ace Commentator “ on the 30th of November 2023 in Abuja.
The Award was in recognition for his immense contributions to Sports development and growth in Nigeria.
The Award was presented on the occasion of the Annual SWAN FCT 2023 Week and Awards ceremony at the Area 3 FIFA goal project football pitch in Garki, Abuja.
In a brief chat with the awardee after the presentation, the renowned sports veteran told newsmen :
“This award to be candid has come as a surprise to me. I came to this event just like every other SWAN member to anchor this event but surprisingly I was presented with this meritorious award
I feel there is no better award received than the one coming from where you belong. Usually when your own Association recognizes your ability, it means that truely you are very good at what you do.
Indeed I’m really appreciative of this great award, it means a lot to me.I want to thank the Ndubueze Chidoka led FCT SWAN for finding me worthy of this honour.” Ignis said
Prior to this award, the Imo born sports journalist legend recently bagged the ‘NUJ BEST SPORTS PRESENTER’ award In addendum to previous milestones already achieved.
Amar Ignis was the Head of station at Brila 88.9 FM for quite a number of years and has been one of the best commentators in the country.
Ignis has anchored other big sporting events as master of ceremony such as the National sports festival, the National youth games, and other like sporting events.
He has been on football commentary on many occasions during the African Nations Cup and world cup qualifiers involving the Super Eagles of Nigeria,on the network service of radio Nigeria, where he presently works.
He is currently the Head Media & Communications at the Nigeria National League (NNL) and has also cemented his presence as a talented veteran actor in the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood).
