Sports in Owerri Zone will soon take a new turn going by the message to sports stakeholders in the zone by the Senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the 2023 general elections, Barr. Sir Chyma Anthony, KSJI (Odiuko)
He made this known to newsmen while fielding questions from journalists at the end of the Justice Development Peace and Caritas Initiative Owerri Catholic Archdiocese Town Hall meeting at the Assumpta Cathedral.
Barrister Chyma Anthony Odiuko outlined the things he would do if elected to the red chamber which include repositioning of sports by handing sports over to professionals in the zone, which will encourage them to produce other great sportsmen and women in the zone and reduce unemployment.
The people of the zone are notable to have produced great sports personalities which include; first Nigeria Olympic Gold Medalist, ACP Chioma Ajunwa Opara; Dream Team captain, Kanu Nwankwo; Kelechi Iheanacho, the great Grasshoppers International Handball Team Iwuanyanwu National among others.
He promised to support the sports sector in the zone to make them more competitive and meet up with the modern day reality as this will be a good development for sports stakeholders in the zone who have been looking for ways to demonstrate their expertise.
