A grassroots sports agency, Global Sports, has organised a talent hunt to discover the next generation of players.
Headed by Onyedikachi Kelechi, whose passion for sports necessitated the championship for kids in Imo State, revealed that it is geared towards raising players from the lower cadre.
He said: “This championship started out of passion for the grassroots targeting U-13 and U-15 youths. I know the abundant talents in the South-East because if you watch the national team, they all dominate.
“We want that trend to continue and what we are doing here is talent hunting of special players that will fit in and represent the country anywhere. It is designed for Academies because they are well organised.”
On the successes recorded so far, Kelechi believes that the right time for their breakthrough will come despite some unprofessional conducts of some coaches. He enjoined well-meaning individuals to key into the project
“They are still waiting for the right time to move. The Nigeria factor is an issue, politics withing the coaching crew and others.
“The challenges have been sponsorship because individually I have to do it because I love sports, especially football. I pray big clubs participate to pick them.”
