The Need for Parents ,Teachers ,Governmental and Non Governmental Organizations as well as other relevant stakeholders to participate in the ongoing Campaign Against bullying of Young Minds has been stressed by the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) the Nigeria Police Force Community Policing Initiative working with different Stakeholders,Multi Agencies and galvanizing their partnership and support as well as enhancing their participation towards problem for a safe,peaceful and secured communities.This was made known by the National Coordinator POCACOV,CSP Ebere Amaraizu ahead of School Resumption for another Academic Year/Session.This is time to get it right and that is why we are enhancing partnership ,supports and participation of Stakeholders on this through the Awareness Creation/Sensitization and Advocacy.School Bullying is becoming widespread,it affects young minds psychologically ,Educationally and socially.It is an aggressive behaviour against others in school which could come in various ways such as verbally by calling of nasty names ,Physically by pushing or kicking or beating etc and Socially too . Research Conducted by IGP POCACOV RESOURCE CENTRE reveals that It makes young minds to live in perpetual fear,Join Cult group,Substance and drug abuse,Self blame,feel weak ,lack self confidence ,Commit Suicide, and at times make them to hate going to school.It could lead to depression,stress anxiety and isolation by young minds thereby not attending to classes.We need to start solving this as a problem in view of its unpleasant consequences on life and times of young minds and our educational sector.
Although the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) is developing modules of engagement to help in the problem Solving of Bullying and its consequences and cutting across such areas like Parent heart to heart Talk with their children.This is important because some school bullying episode are also linked sometimes to harsh parenting and sibling bullying at home amongst others.The Modules will cut across the role of teachers,headmasters ,principals and house masters and to provide enabling ground for speak up with protection and this is to be actualized with the establishment of POCACOV Volunteer Clubs under POCACOV IN MY SCHOOL for safer school and community.The POCACOV volunteer club of POCACOV IN MY SCHOOL will comprise the students,parents,Teachers Association members
and school management to identify those with history of bullying and
recommend appropriate measures.
I want to use this medium to advise young minds as they go back to school to refrain from involvement into any negative tendencies such as Cultism ,Substance and Drug Abuse,Bullying and violent behaviour and other vices in order to be a champion .POCACOV is also encouraging those that are bullied to report to appropriate school authorities .We have have to rise up through our individual and collective efforts against the menace of bullying for a
safe,peaceful and secured educational community .
