Bayelsa Queens team manager Mr Benebi Numa has expressed delight on the triumph of his team in the just concluded Betsy Obaseki women’s football tournament in Benin city, Silvernews.com reports.
Bayelsa Queens won the BOWFT held in Edo state last week and won the grand prize of five million naira.
Speaking to silvernews.com after the victory, Mr Numa said;
“It didn’t come easy like the other ones that we have to score lots of goals, it was very difficult to play, we were properly prepared for this championship, they came to avenge on what happened during the Aiteo cup and the standard was very high too considering the situation that they have now, in the Continent.
I think it was a better championship, the supercede situation was embarrassing because we are toping the league before for the crucial of the league and we are expected to do better than what we did and remember that we need to correct what we did wrong the last time by recruiting younger players than the one we had especially the talented once from Lagos, Akwa ibom, Port Harcourt and all over the country in other to strengthen our team and this venture brought competition in the team and made the team to excel.
We did loose some players outside the Aiteo cup to Europe and we have some players in the national team too so have full strength but there is still work in progress because we are trying to see how we will be able to survive without my key players that left us and result is coming out slowly and we have been able to pick up and beginning to understand ourselves better and beginning to have so much confidence in ourselves and I think it will pay off for the teams plans for the future.
Seriously i must commend the Governor and the entire Government of Edo state for putting up this championship. It is an eye opener, it is very revealing that it is possible for a state government to come out and say let us see how we will work and do for the girl child, and for the Ladies and for the kids that are coming up let them see something very good that they can emulate and that is what happened there,
The standard is high the competition is stiff and the admiration is also higher than what we are expecting. N5000000 (five million) For a female team? that’s beautiful.” He concluded.
