Newly Inaugurated ALS Ambulance to Provide Free Emergency Services to Rural Communities
Awgu, Enugu State August 22, 2026 .
The United States Government Exchange Alumni Association Nigeria (USGEAAN) Enugu State Chapter has assured the Obieberechukwu Awgu Health Mission Foundation of technical support to ensure optimal performance of its newly inaugurated Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ambulance for free emergency response services in Greater Awgu Communities.
The pledge was made by the USGEAAN Enugu State Coordinator, Coach Ebere Amaraizu, during his goodwill message at the formal presentation and inauguration of the ambulance held in Awgu on Friday, 22nd August 2026.
The fully equipped ALS Ambulance comes with a defibrillator, oxygen system, suction machine, spine board, emergency drugs, and first aid equipment to provide immediate, life-saving care to rural dwellers.
“This is a laudable initiative that promotes community health systems at a time when empathy is being overshadowed by sympathy, and when photography and video have taken the place of empathy and service at emergency scenes,” Coach Amaraizu stated. “With this ambulance, lives can now be saved.”
He commended Rev. Fr. Ude Kingsley Amobichukwu, Founder of the Foundation, for his visionary leadership in bringing this life-saving intervention to rural communities.
“For us at USGEAAN Enugu, our mandate is to Unite, Empower and Transform – Together. We will provide technical support including training and retraining of volunteers to equip them with the necessary tools and skills to continue responding positively to emergencies locally,” he added.
FOUNDATION’S COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY HEALTH
In her welcome address, *Mrs. Adaora Onuoha-Ugwonna, General Manager of the Foundation, expressed gratitude to guests and stakeholders. She noted that the Foundation, established in 2021, is rooted in compassion, service, and commitment to giving back to society
She highlighted that the Foundation has grown into a comprehensive, community-focused health organization with programs including: health symposia, seminars, rural health enlightenment, community-based training, health mission outreaches, community development programs, capacity building initiatives, and strategic partnerships.
PAPER PRESENTATION: LEARNING FROM GLOBAL AND AFRICAN MODELS
A keynote paper titled “Evolution of Emergency Response in Europe (Austria as a Case Study) vis-à-vis the Ubuntu African Philosophy of ‘Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya’” was presented by Rev. Fr. Vincent Okoshi
He drew parallels between Austria’s evolution from medieval communal assistance to modern professional emergency agencies and the African philosophy of *“Ubuntu” – “Umuntu Ngumuntu Ngabantu”, meaning “a person is a person through other persons” and the Igbo saying “Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya” “Do not abandon your brother/sister”
Rev. Fr. Okoshi noted that both systems emphasize *collective responsibility, volunteerism, and the protection of human life.
“Ubuntu scholars argue that communal ethics promote dignity, shared humanity and mutual care. European systems like Austria’s can benefit from stronger community-based participation, while African societies can strengthen their emergency systems through improved institutional organization and technology,” he concluded.
