Getfit International Fitness Club Storms Mbaise for Coordinator’s Father’s Burial

Getfit International Fitness Club of Lagos State last week visited Mbaise for the burial of their coordinator’s father at Otulu, Ahiazu Mbaise. The team used the opportunity to visit the Chairman of the Imo State Mini Football Association and CEO of G Innovation Football Club of Lagos, Mr. Chigozie Nwagwu, who hosted one of Lagos State’s finest recreational clubs. They experienced the renowned hospitality of the Mbaise people.

Mr. Nwagwu, a member of the visiting team, warmly welcomed them to his farm home, a unique space where nature and human life coexist harmoniously. The farm, known for nurturing various domestic animals, including snakes, captivated the visiting team members with its distinctive atmosphere.

Expressing his delight at receiving the team, Mr. Nwagwu showcased the serene and natural environment of his farm. The visiting team was led by BOT Chikwado Okeke (Cilo), the founder of the club, and BOT Denis Agbator (02). The club captain, Mr. Bensuccess Nnachor, along with other members from the diaspora, represented Getfit United International Club—an All-Stars Sports Club based in Lagos State, Nigeria. They expressed their gratitude and admiration for the warm hospitality extended to them in Mbaise.

Inspired by the memorable experience, the team expressed their willingness to return to Imo State for a friendly match in the coming months. The club members appreciated the warm reception and commended how the initiative is fostering community spirit through sports and nature in Mbaise, further enriching their understanding of the Mbaise Nation.

Imo Sports Commissioner Targets Gold Medals At Niger Delta Sports Festival

Commissioner for Sports in Imo State, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha has set sights on picking up the available Gold medals for Team Imo at the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival.

In an exclusive interview with Silvernews.com.ng, the Sports Commissioner declared the readiness of Team Imo noting that preparations have been put in place to ensure a successful outing.

“We have done all we are supposed to do. The athletes are ready. We are camping about 400 athletes including the coaches. They have been in camp for the past three days to make sure that everything is put in place.

“We are good to go and we want to appreciate Governor Hope Uzodimma for his support. We thank the initiator and everyone.

“We are targeting all aspects of sports and we are not leaving any sports behind. We are targeting to get Gold medals in all the sports. Imo state dominated the elimination stages of the National Sports Festival in Enugu. We will do much better now and hope to get up to 80% Gold medals. I know by his grace, we are coming back with a lot of Gold medals.”

About 3,000 athletes, 500 coaches and technical officials are expected at the games which will feature 17 events from April 1-8.

The festival is sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) and supported by Premium Trust Bank. The NDSF will be officially flagged off by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, April 2 the Uyo Township Stadium.

Oburugo Gifted Eagles Fc trashes Rising Star 4-1

It was a jubilation galore last Sunday as the Oburugo Gifted Eagles Football Club Ohaji in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State walloped their visiting club Rising Star of Obinze in Owerri West LGA of Imo State 4-1 in a friendly match.

The match which was played at Ilile Town School playing ground Ohaji in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State witnessed major turn out of spectators, suporters and fans from within Ohaji/Egbema and some part of Imo State.

During the game which kick-started behind time because of rain, the host club showed class above the Rising Star fc and succeeded in humiliating them with 4-1

The Oburugo Gifted Eagles fc had registered their first 2 goals during the first half while the visiting team out of their serious fight during the game managed to score one during 2nd half.

But the Gifted Eagles continued their well articulated style of football, displaying their experiences which in the end resulted in scoring another 2 goals during the second half

Speaking after the match, the Coach of Oburugo Gifted Eagles Fc, Victor Stephen (Coach Balla) described the match as s challenging one because of the complains from the fans

He said that as a coach he worked seriously on the players to attract victory by making every one of them to be on their toes instead of relaxing

The coach assured both the fans and supporters that there would be more winnings as they proceeds in their feature matches.

The coach said that his team had before now had its firs wine, drew one match and lost one as the case may

The Rangers International Football Club Foundation’s children and young persons’ initiative, tagged “Inspire Me”, is a purposeful engagement program designed to foster innovation and resourcefulness for sustainable development. This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Rangers International Football Club Foundation, Coach Ebere Amaraizu, while discussing the program’s significance.

According to Coach Amaraizu, the Rangers International Football Club (RIFC) Foundation “Inspire Me” Program is an integral part of the Rangers Intl FC Foundation’s community initiatives. It is implemented in partnership with Campus Technology Life Initiative (CTLI), Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, Coli Mental Health Academy, and the Carmelite Prisoners Interest Organization (CAPIONG). The program is structured to engage children and young individuals through a carefully designed psychosocial support framework.

The “Inspire Me” initiative aims to inspire young people to develop critical thinking skills, build resilience, encourage self-discovery, and promote social skills and inclusion. These objectives are geared toward helping them unlock their potential. Coach Ebere Amaraizu, who is also a certified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Coach and Sports Coach, emphasized that the program targets children and young individuals within specific communities. It focuses on instilling values, morals, standards, and discipline while fostering moral and ethical rebirth. Ultimately, the initiative aims to transform them into valuable community assets and steer them away from negative pathways, contributing to sustainable developments.

The Eternal Brothers Club has explained the reason behind the change of its former name: United Brothers Club, noting that it aims towards eternal friendship of members.

The Deputy President of the Club, Dr Kelechukwu Okezie said in an interview on Wednesday in Abakaliki, that the uniqueness of the name: Eternal, stands it out.

Okezie said that the name Eternal, speaks for the value and mission of the club because eternal friendship and comraide are ideal virtues.

“We aim to continue supporting one another, bonding in love and enhancing members’ welfare.

“We have made remarkable progress since the club’s formation and we want to sustain such ideals and feats,”.

He noted the former name United Brothers Club could be seen as common but even with biblical injunctions, anything eternal is unique.

“We have bonded as one and want such to remain till infinity,”.

Okezie noted that the club’s Easter Party/Award Night will be ideal and unique, showcasing the club’s rich heritage.

“The event which will hold on April 14, 2025 , will witness a roll call of who is who in the society and Chaired by Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu, Former Nigerian Ambassador to Greece and Minister of Culture and Tourism.

“We would honour great men in Ebonyi and beyond;; individuals who have contributed to the growth and development of the state and Nigeria.

“Those to be honoured include: Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Sen. Anthony Agbo, Hon. Emmanuel Uguru, Hon. Kenneth Ugbala and Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali.Nome.

HEARTLAND QUEENS SURVIVES EKITI QUEENS THREAT

Heartland Queens fc yesterday at the Dan Anyiam stadium Owerri pip Ekiti Queens Fc by 1-0 in week 9 of the NWFL.

The match which started by 4pm under a Clement weather and a scanty crowd with the Owerri land ladies taking the kickoff.

Prior before yesterday’s match the Owerri side are 6th on the log with 8 teams and had garnered a paltry 5 pts , while the Biodun Oyebanji girls had 9 pts and are placed 5th on the log.

The Obi Ogbala girls despite dropping points in majority of their matches in the first stanza of the league believed they can still close the gap on the league leaders in their group and went into the match with all seriousness and were ready to get back their own pounds of flesh.

In their first meeting in the first stanza of the NWFL a 74th minute goal by Olaleye Kayode at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti humbled Heartland Queens.

The visitors played with a lot of confidence and truncated every dangerous move made by the home in their area but it wasn’t long enough and in the 15th minute Saleh Blessing in her debut for Heartland Queens scored the opener.

The Ekiti landladies came out from their shell after conceeding a goal to fight back as they kept on mounting the required pressure against the home team, creating chances that were under utilised.

The first half ended in favour of the Owerri girls.

The second half saw the visitors with the kickoff as they showed more determination to redeem their image with some robust displays as well as having their eyes on target for a possible goal.

Heartland Queens pulled out Saleh Blessing for Johnson in the 58 minute while Ekiti Queens did a duo substitution.

Moments later two players of the visiting found themselves colliding with themselves as the went on an Arial battle, they were badly injured and which of course led to their substitution.

Towards the end of the match the referee awarded a penalty to the home team which was not converted to goal by the Owerri girls.

All efforts by the away team to equalize proved abortive as the solid back four for Heartland Queens maintained status quo.

SGFC Athletics Wins 2025 Jagaban Cup In Grand Style

SGFC Athletics overcame the challenge posed by 36 Lion to secure the Jagaban Cup title at Legacy Pitch on Thursday morning.

The four-day football tournament featured eight teams, with Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Ikorodu City narrowly losing 1-0 to Ijebu United in the earlier third-place match.

As anticipated, the final between fan favorites 36 Lion and SGFC delivered an exciting spectacle, truly reflecting the spirit of this popular grassroots football championship.

After a thrilling match that concluded with a score of 0-0, the Ilorin-based Nigeria Nationwide League One team SGFC emerged victorious, winning 5-4 in the penalty shootout to claim the coveted trophy.

In a post-match interview, the Chief Convener of the championship, Hajji Gafar Liameed, expressed his pleasure with the quality of play and the discipline exhibited by all teams throughout the tournament.

Liameed, who also serves as the Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, shared his vision for enhancing the tournament in the future, while confirming that the competition format will remain unchanged.

“This championship embodies the positive values associated with our esteemed President Bola Tinubu, particularly in terms of discipline, high moral standards, and a commitment to empowering youth through football,” remarked Hajji Gafar.

Jagaban Cup: 36 Lion FC Battles SGFC Athletics in Final

36 Lion FC and SGFC Athletics have advanced to the Jagaban Cup final following their matches on Wednesday at the Legacy Pitch in Surulere. This advancement comes after the conclusion of the final group stage games, where the tournament rules dictate that the top team from each group move on to the final.

 

Meanwhile, Ikorodu City will face Ijebu United in the third place.

 

In the day’s opening match, Ijebu United triumphed over Dino SC with a score of 3-2 in a captivating contest. Dino took an early lead when Agbede Hassan capitalized on a misplayed back pass by Howas Fidel. Ijebu United equalized through a penalty by Onyemaechi Uchechukwu, but Hassan struck again with a long-range effort. Ekeh Emenike brought the score level for the team in yellow, but Onyemaechi secured the win with a deflected shot.

 

The second match saw SGFC clinch their spot in the final with a narrow 1-0 win against Imperial FC. Both teams had chances to score but were unable to convert. The breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Joseph Emmanuel unleashed a powerful long-range shot that found the back of the net, propelling his team to the final on Thursday.

 

In a dramatic turn of events, 36 Lion FC managed to draw 1-1 against Bethel FC, replicating their comeback from Tuesday. Bethel FC initially took the lead just before halftime when Caleb Okereke capitalized on a rebound from Drame’s save following Eric Boma’s long-range shot. However, Lawal Oluwaseun secured a final spot for 36 Lion FC with a spectacular backheel goal twenty minutes before the end of the match.

 

The last game of the day featured Ikorodu City defeating Broad City 3-1 in an exciting finale. Dagogo Ibifubara opened the scoring after receiving a precise pass from Okeh Emmanuel, and the captain added another with a well-executed free kick in the 17th minute. Sanusi Hanif, who had been a constant threat, finally found the net to reduce the deficit for Broad City after several missed opportunities. Musa Malik then sealed the victory with a well-placed shot from inside the box, concluding a thrilling match.

Aged women, council boss at war over land demarcation modalities in Ebonyi community

Aged women from Isinkwo community of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi state and the Council Chairman, Chief Ikechukwu Ogboffia, have disagreed over the modalities adopted in demarcating a contentious land.

The fatricidal conflict between Isinkwo and neighbouring Abaomege community has led to loss of several lives and destruction of properties worth millions of naira.

Past administrations in the state tried to end the conflict to no avail which made the Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration demarcate the land.

The aged Isinkwo women numbering over 50, staged a protest at the Ebonyi Government House on Monday, alleging that the council chairman was using his influence to favour his community Abaomege, in the demarcation.

The Leader of the Isinkwo Community Development Union (ICDU) Women Wing, Mrs Margaret Itumo, said during the protest that the flawed demarcation process could cause breach of peace.

“We seek the state governor;’s urgent intervention as the relief we had when the demarcation commenced on Feb 17, has been dashed.

“We realised that the demarcation was without regard to the government’s White Paper which is the legal framework for the terms of settlement.

“We also noticed that the process was not transparent, favouring Abaomege community over Isinkwo.,:”

She complained that the survey map which is a critical component of the white paper, has also been disregarded by those undertaking the demarcation.

“We have complained severally but they have refused to provide the map for necessary guidance on the demarcation.

“We could not had bothered if the map was hidden from both communities but received information that the council chairman was in possession of the map.

“The six swamp-lands in dispute are captured in the white paper with their names but the demarcation has extended to our uplands, ancient buildings, old primary school among others,”.

The Council Chairman, Chief Ikechukwu Ogboffia, denied the accusations of compromise, noting that he has been neutral in the demarcation process, as the head of the council.

“Isinkwo and Abaomege communities are brothers, inter-marry and therefore should live as one family.

“This is an age-long conflict which has led to loss of many lives and I pledged during my campaign, to permanently quell it.

“The people should be grateful to the governor for the bold step of demarcating the land and therefore shun acts or utterances that would trauncate the process,”.

He noted that he was not saddled with the demarcation task as the government will ensure that the process was fair and just.

The State Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mr Donatus Ilang urged the women to embrace peace to ensure that the conflict was permanently resolved.

“This conflict has claimed the lives of our fathers, mothers and children so no effort should be spared to permanently address it.

“I will relay your concerns to the appropriate authorities but you should maintain peace which is paramount in the resolution process,”
