Imo Sports Commissioner Targets Gold Medals At Niger Delta Sports Festival

Commissioner for Sports in Imo State, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha has set sights on picking up the available Gold medals for Team Imo at the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival.

In an exclusive interview with Silvernews.com.ng, the Sports Commissioner declared the readiness of Team Imo noting that preparations have been put in place to ensure a successful outing.

“We have done all we are supposed to do. The athletes are ready. We are camping about 400 athletes including the coaches. They have been in camp for the past three days to make sure that everything is put in place.

“We are good to go and we want to appreciate Governor Hope Uzodimma for his support. We thank the initiator and everyone.

“We are targeting all aspects of sports and we are not leaving any sports behind. We are targeting to get Gold medals in all the sports. Imo state dominated the elimination stages of the National Sports Festival in Enugu. We will do much better now and hope to get up to 80% Gold medals. I know by his grace, we are coming back with a lot of Gold medals.”

About 3,000 athletes, 500 coaches and technical officials are expected at the games which will feature 17 events from April 1-8.

The festival is sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) and supported by Premium Trust Bank. The NDSF will be officially flagged off by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, April 2 the Uyo Township Stadium.
