Coal City Blazers Basketball Club have resumed training ahead of the second round of the Nigeria Men’s Premier Basketball League, with the Enugu-based team focused on improving their performance in the next phase of the competition.
The young Blazers players, who have been on break after the first round, returned to camp as the technical crew intensifies preparations. The team is expected to receive a boost with the arrival of new players discovered during the South East Basketball Invitational Tournament held in Ebonyi State.
The technical team led by national team coach Chiedozi Nwoye will be hoping the new additions will add quality and depth to the squad as the team targets a better outing.
The first round of the Atlantic Conference was hosted in Benin City and Ibadan, where Coal City Blazers showed great promise against some of the more established teams in the league.
The second round will now move to Enugu, marking the first time the conference will be hosted in the South East region of Nigeria.
The hosting of the conference in Enugu is seen as a major step toward promoting basketball development in the region, with the South East representative on the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Chief Ugo Udezue, credited for his efforts in advancing the growth of the game in the South East.
The Atlantic Conference features Rivers Hoopers of Rivers State, Maktown Flyers Basketball Club of Benue, Comets Basketball Club of Lagos, Hoops and Read Basketball Club of Lagos, Kwara Falcons of Ilorin, Athletes For Peace Basketball Club of Rivers, Edo Beads Basketball Club of Benin, Raptors Basketball Club of Lagos, Coal City Blazers Basketball Club of Enugu and Confluence Kings Basketball Club of Kogi.
With the second round coming to Enugu, Coal City Blazers will aim to use home advantage, improved preparation and emerging talents to make a stronger statement in the Nigeria Men’s Premier Basketball League.
