Abia Warriors FC have appealed to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to withdraw the five-match suspension imposed on their Multimedia Officer, Chidera Favor Igwe, while challenging an allegation of inadequate security during their Matchday 10 fixture on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
The Umuahia-based club described the suspension as excessive and unjustified, insisting that Igwe did not attempt to disrupt the live broadcast of the league match.
In its formal appeal, the club explained that Igwe had expressed displeasure over what she considered poor officiating when the broadcast crew allegedly kept its camera focused on her for an unusually long period.
According to the club, she merely advised the cameraman to move to the visiting team’s side after spending considerable time covering the home team’s section.
Abia Warriors maintained that Igwe did not attempt to stop or obstruct the cameraman from performing his official duties, urging the league to review the incident objectively and reconsider the disciplinary action.
The club acknowledged the importance of the league’s broadcast partners but stressed that professionalism, fairness and mutual respect should guide the conduct of all stakeholders in Nigerian football.
Club challenges security allegation
In a separate response to a summary jurisdiction notice over an alleged breach of Rule 8.13.52 of the 2026/2027 EUROMATCH NPFL Framework and Rules, Abia Warriors insisted that adequate security arrangements were in place during the Matchday 10 fixture.
The club argued that the live broadcast footage could provide an objective account of the security arrangements and events during the match.

It further stated that the visiting team departed the stadium without molestation or any reported security incident, adding that the away side could independently confirm the circumstances surrounding its departure.
Abia Warriors consequently urged the league to examine the broadcast footage and seek confirmation from the visiting team before reaching a decision on the allegation.
The club called for the withdrawal of the notice, maintaining that the circumstances surrounding the fixture warranted a fair and objective assessment of the security arrangements.
Appeal for fairness
The club reiterated its commitment to complying with NPFL regulations and maintaining constructive relationships with the league, broadcast partners, match officials and other stakeholders.
It also appealed for fairness, transparency and due process in the consideration of both matters.
Abia Warriors further requested that the five-match suspension imposed on Igwe be withdrawn. Alternatively, the club asked the league to reconsider the sanction if it determines that disciplinary action is warranted.
The NPFL’s response to the club’s submissions was not included in the information made available for this report.
