The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Appeals Committee, chaired by Barrister Emmanuel Okibe, has dismissed a petition by former NBBF president Olumide Oyedeji challenging the outcome of the federation’s 2026 elections.
The committee declared the petition without merit, citing insufficient evidence to substantiate his allegations, and upheld the results of the elections.
Oyedeji had challenged the South-West zonal election, which he contested, as well as the entire electoral process, alleging irregularities in delegates’ lists, the exclusion of board members, the choice of congress venue and the appointment of the Electoral and Appeals Committees.
However, the committee said his initial omission from the list of cleared candidates was corrected, allowing him to participate in the election, which he lost.
The committee also raised concerns about the authenticity of documents submitted with his petition after NBBF board member Olumide Bamiduro reportedly denied signing them or authorising the use of his signature.
It recommended that the federation refer the matter to the relevant law enforcement authorities for investigation. The allegation has not been established by a court.
Meanwhile, the committee also received a petition from Bauchi Basketball Association chairman Mohammed Sani Umar over his exclusion from the North-East zonal election.
However, details of the committee’s findings and decision on his petition were not available in the report.
The decisions form part of the post-election disputes following the emergence of the NBBF board for the 2026–2030 administration.
