Nigerian football fans have reason to celebrate as one of the nation’s former league greats, Chibuzor Ozurumba, prepares to walk down the aisle.
Ozurumba, who made headlines in 2003 as the Nigerian league’s highest goal scorer while playing for Iwuanyanwu Nationale, will wed his sweetheart, Chioma Nduanusi, on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The ceremony is scheduled for the Methodist Church, MCC/Uratta Road, Owerri, with a grand reception to follow at Government College, Okigwe Road.
Long before his professional stardom, Ozurumba burst onto the scene in 2000 during the NNPC/SHELL Cup for Secondary Schools, leading Grays International Secondary School, Kaduna, to victory. His exceptional performance earned him MVP and Highest Goal Scorer honors that year.
He began his professional journey with Jasper United and later became a household name with Iwuanyanwu Nationale. In 2003, his 13-goal haul earned him the Golden Boot, a feat that remains etched in Nigerian league history. He also featured for top-tier clubs including Enyimba—where he lifted the CAF Champions League title in 2004—as well as Akwa United and Heartland FC.
Fans will remember his role in Heartland’s dramatic Federation Cup win over Enyimba in 2011, a match that capped his legacy in Nigerian football.
Though retired, Ozurumba’s influence endures. His journey from local school competitions to continental glory, and now to family life, continues to inspire.
The Imo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated the ex-striker on his upcoming wedding. “Chibuzor has not only made his mark on the pitch but has also set an example off it. We wish him and Chioma a life full of love, peace, and happiness,” said Cosmos Chukwuemeka, SWAN Imo Chairman.
