The annual scholarship award event hosted by Rev. Fr. Elisesus Ogbonna Ibeh provided a powerful message of hope, perseverance, and community responsibility. This year’s program, aimed at supporting primary and secondary school students, celebrated three outstanding recipients: Onyejelen Immaculate Amarachi from Holy Family Secondary School Agunaeze, Opara Maryanne from Eziwanne Development School Mbaise, and Oguledo Ngozi Prisca from Great Start Secondary School Mbaise.
In his heartfelt speech, Fr. Ibeh shared his personal story of overcoming adversity. He recalled being nicknamed “APP” by his peers because his family could not afford a new school uniform. Despite these challenges, he persevered, crediting his late uncle, Joshe Agaziem Ibeh, who took responsibility for his education. Drawing from his experience, Fr. Ibeh encouraged the young audience to remain steadfast in their studies, assuring them that, like him, they too could find support along the way.
Fr. Ibeh expressed gratitude to Chief C.C. Nwachukwu, whose generosity inspired him to create the scholarship program. He urged the students to emulate this spirit of giving by supporting others when they achieve success in life.
The priest also took the opportunity to address pressing social issues. He warned the youths against drug abuse, alcoholism, and internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo,” emphasizing that these vices would lead to the destruction of their futures.
The event served as a beacon of hope, illustrating the transformative power of education and the far-reaching impact of kindness and mentorship. Fr. Ibeh’s initiative continues to inspire the community, fostering a legacy of resilience and collective growth.
