The Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, has unveiled the Prof. M.A. Nze/Oluchi Ekwueme Soccer Academy in the state. Represented by Mr. Gregg Nwadike and Wilson Amaefule, the commissioner assured that the government would continue to support individuals investing in sports development, while also collaborating with agencies to strengthen grassroots sports in the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, Onyeocha commended Oluchi Ekwueme for her vision and commitment to giving back to society through the establishment of the academy. He noted that such initiatives would play a vital role in grooming young talents and creating future opportunities for athletes.
The highlight of the event was a ceremonial match between the Academy team and Harkers FC, which ended in a 1–1 draw. After the game, the CEO of the academy, Oluchi Ekwueme, and the team’s coach, Ekejuba Michael Nwopara, expressed their determination to compete in every available competition with the ultimate goal of nurturing future football stars for Nigeria.
