The 2025 Zonal Youth Games elimination tournament currently ongoing in Enugu produced another day of thrilling contests, with Imo State athletes once again dominating the scoreboard across multiple events.
In basketball (male category), Imo State defeated Abia 14–4 in a commanding performance. The volleyball (female) team also had an easy ride over Abia, winning 2–0, while the female handball team secured a 14–7 victory against Abia.
However, in male handball, hosts Enugu overcame Imo with a hard-fought 19–13 win. Cricket (male category) saw another close encounter, but Imo edged past Ebonyi 10–9 to claim victory.
At the end of the day’s contests, Imo State claimed first place in seven sports:
1. Cricket (Male)
2. Basketball (Male)
3. Volleyball (Female)
4. Handball (Female)
5. Abula (Male & Female)
6. Hockey (Female)
7. Baseball (Male)
The state also secured second place in Rugby (Male).
With these results, Imo State have reinforced their dominance in the Zonal Youth Games, setting the pace for other participating states as the elimination rounds continue in Enugu.
