Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has honoured eight distinguished Super Falcons players and officials from the state with a cash reward of N30 million and a plot of land each for their outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The honoured athletes include Chiamaka Nnadozie, Tochukwu Oluehi, Osinachi Ohale, Chiwendu Ihezuo, Jennifer Echegini, Michelle Alozie, assistant coach Ann Chiejine, and former Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie. During the reception ceremony held at the Government House in Owerri, the Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, described the players as the “Golden Girls of Imo State.” He formally introduced the athletes to Governor Uzodimma in the presence of dignitaries including the Deputy Governor, traditional rulers, top government appointees, and sports stakeholders.
Also in attendance was Mr. Godswill Chinedu Echegini, father of Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini, who flew in from Europe to celebrate the team’s achievement alongside the Imo State delegation. The event was marked by celebration and gratitude, as the state reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and rewarding sporting excellence.
