Musa Kida, Others Honoured at Wakawaka Sports Award in Owerri

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr. Musa Kida, was among the distinguished recipients of the prestigious Wakawaka Sports Award held over the weekend at the upscale City Cruz Hotel in Owerri. The event, which attracted sports stakeholders from across the country, celebrated excellence and outstanding contributions to Nigerian sports.

Engr. Kida, who was unavoidably absent, was ably represented by the Chairman of the Imo State Basketball Association, Mr. Kelechi Anosike, who received the award on his behalf. The NBBF President was honoured for his unwavering dedication to the development of basketball in Nigeria, particularly during a turbulent period marked by internal challenges and the temporary suspension of the federation by FIBA. Despite the odds, Kida’s leadership helped steady the ship and reposition Nigerian basketball on the global stage.

Since overcoming those early challenges in his second term, Kida has led a renewed push for grassroots development, transparency in administration, and international competitiveness. The Wakawaka Sports Award stands as a testament to his resilience and commitment, recognizing a tenure that has brought stability and growth to one of Nigeria’s most promising sports.
