Renowned Nollywood actor and veteran, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has reaffirmed his commitment to promoting mental health awareness and education. The legendary actor recently received a certificate of merit as a mental health advocate from the Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation, an organization accredited by the International Association of Therapists (IAOTH) in the United Kingdom.
Speaking at the award ceremony in Enugu, Owoh emphasized the critical role of mental well-being in human existence and productivity. He noted that optimal performance in daily life is unattainable without good mental health.
“We must ensure that people begin to understand the significance of mental health and prioritize it,” he stated. “We all experience stressful moments, shocking events, traumatic situations, and excessive worry. These are all aspects of mental health that require awareness and management.”
Owoh further highlighted the importance of emotional and psychological stability in achieving great accomplishments and fostering a compassionate society. He expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, acknowledging the responsibility it entails.
“I am pleased to receive this recognition today as a mental health advocate. It is both an honor and a challenge, requiring greater efforts to promote mental health awareness and education. However, I gladly embrace this responsibility and look forward to contributing to this transformative movement,” he added.
The Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation is a global organization dedicated to mental health education and advocacy. Through its initiatives, the foundation seeks to equip individuals with the knowledge and resources necessary to manage mental health challenges effectively.
