United States-based industrialist, Chief Remi Onuoha, has disclosed the inspiration behind his initiative to organize a competition centered on Ilulu Na Akpaalaokwu Igbo. Speaking to Silvernews.com.ng, Onuoha explained that his primary goal is to promote the Mbaise nation and foster development within the community.
According to Onuoha, the project aims to rekindle the spirit of cultural awareness among the people of Mbaise, with a particular focus on preserving and celebrating the richness of the Igbo language—a cause that the Greater Mbaise Forum has actively championed with the Ilulu Na Akpaalaokwu book.
“My motivation is to use Ilulu Igbo to raise our consciousness and highlight individuals who can speak the Igbo language fluently,” he said. “This initiative symbolizes progress and contributes to enhancing our people’s knowledge and cultural pride.”
Onuoha noted that the competition was meticulously researched and designed to spotlight Mbaise, drawing inspiration from literary icons like Chinua Achebe, who skillfully used proverbs in his works to convey wisdom and cultural values.
He further reflected on the differences in cultural values between societies, stating, “In the United States, people often ask me about social security. I tell them that in Igbo land, we don’t have social security; instead, we have ‘children security.’” The industrialist, whose limousine service in the Washington, D.C. area is among those used by the White House, emphasized the unique social dynamics of Igbo culture.
Onuoha expressed hope that the project would serve as a platform to celebrate and preserve the Igbo language and culture while driving development in the Mbaise region.
