Aboh Mbaise local government has qualified for the final of the Pan Nigerian Youth Governor’s Cup after a 1-0 victory over Njaba local government in the semi finals played at the Alvan Ikoku University of Technology Owerri.
The game was attended by the Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha and the Commissioner for Youths and Talent Hunt, Hon Emeka Mandela.
A well taken free kick from the captain of Aboh Mbaise LGA, who is a leading scorer in the competition with 6 goals Emmanuel Uwasomba got the better of the goalkeeper of Njaba LGA to put Aboh on the lead in the 5th minute.
All efforts by the Njaba team to score proved abortive.
Addressing the players, the Commissioner for Youths said the essence of the tournament is for talent hunt.
He said the administration is not interested in seeing expired players on the streets of the state anymore.
According to him, the Governor is bent on making sure, they trade their careers abroad which will go a long way in improving the GDP of the state.
He also said that managers of national football teams, Heartland FC and other teams from abroad will be at the final to scout for young players.
While speaking after the match, the manager of Aboh Mbaise LGA team, Coach Amaechi John thanked God for his grace upon the team.
“He said, “Aboh Mbaise LGA team is synonymous with winning trophies and we continued to have them for keeps. God is involved 100%.”
On the other hand, the Youth Coordinator of Aboh Mbaise LGA, Hon. Shedrack Chinonso thanked God for his faithfulness so far and asked for his favour at the final with Oru East LGA on Sunday the 3rd of November, 2024 at the Dan Ayiam Stadium, Owerri.
