Former Nigeria international, Emmanuel Amuneke has thrown his support behind the Pan Nigeria Youth Governor’s Competition for Higher Institutions in Imo State aimed at discovering football stars, Silvernews.com.ng reports.
Amuneke, who witnessed one of the matches between Federal Polytechnic Owerri and Federal College of Land Resources Technology (FECOLART) lauded the teams for showcasing their talents.
According to him, the intelligence of a player is very critical adding that the physical aspect is also important to any aspiring footballer.
“We hope the games that are coming up, we will be able to see more beautiful games and also see more talents. The team that lost, you could see they have a very good goalkeeper that have done a very good job from the beginning of the game. Such player need to be encouraged.
“It’s key to look at the intelligence aspect of a player in terms of ball handling, ball retaining and ball passing. From the physical point of view, not every player possess that kind of quality but the physical aspect can be worked on. The most important thing is to see the intelligence aspect of the player with or without the ball.
“I am a football person and I played the game to the highest level and I also started like these young guys today. It will always be a pleasure and privilege to come to a game like this and watch the young guys also nursing their ambition to become great.”
