The Imo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has hailed the appointment of Mrs Patricia Ezeji as the new Director of Sports, Imo State Sports Commission.

Mrs Ezeji on Monday replaced hard working former Director of Sports, Sir, Ferdinand Emeana who bowed out from the Imo Sports Commission after a meritorious service to Imo state and Nigeria in general.

The newly appointed Director of Sports of the Commission has risen through the ranks including acting as the Public Relations Officer of the then Imo Sports Council and other various positions before her recent elevation.

Imo SWAN urged the former Nigerian Hockey star to use her years of experience in the sports both of player and now as an administrator to advance the interest of sports in the state ensuring that all sports are well catered for and allowed to flourish.

The press statement signed by Imo SWAN Chairman, Mr. Cosmos Chukwuemeka reminded Mrs Ezeji that the world will beam its searchlight on the first Hockey player to become a Director of Sports in the commission for leadership and guidance to navigate the sport sector in the state.

Imo SWAN also used the press statement to appreciate the effort of the immediate past Director of Sports, Imo state Sports Commission, Sir Ferdinand Emeana who strove to ensure sports thrived under his watch while ensuring that he got the necessary approvals to ensure sporting associations attend competitions as and when due.

The Association wished him well in his retirement and pray that God continue to grant him good health, long life and prosperity so that his wealth of experience would be continually called upon for the growth and development of Sports in Imo state and even beyond.

In a related development, the association also congratulated one of its members, Mr Kennedy Onwunali, CEO of Silvernews Communication on his appointment as the Media Manager of the Imo State Basketball Association.

Chukwuemeka said that Mr Onwunali’s appointment was a step in the right direction and recalled how the Media and Division One Committee Member of the NBBF worked hard to defend the image of the sport in the country.

He urged him to strive harder with members of IMBA to achieve its programmes and objectives for the year and beyond.
