A foremost football enthusiast and member Lagos State Football Association, Dr Osondu Martins Ibegbu has called on the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation to entrust Emmanuel Amunike the vacant Super Eagles coaching role, Silvernews.com.ng reports.

Ibegbu stated that only Amunike and consortium of indigenous coaches can solve the issues surrounding the Senior Male National Team.

He urged the NFF to eschew tribal sentiments in selecting the best adding that Amunike has a proven track record to lead the Super Eagles.

“Give Nigerians Emmanuel Amunike. We have this in our disposal, give us Emmanuel Amunike. Finidi George can work with him and Vincent Enyeama can be the goalkeeper coach. Give us Emmanuel Amunike, let him solve our problem. We don’t need a foreign coach and I am saying it categorically.

“Look at the game yesterday, Nigeria didn’t have one shot on target and you are telling me Finidi George can do it. We were not playing against Brazil, we were playing against common Mali. I have seen his track record. Forget about tribal bigot or sentiments. Give him this job. He is the best man.”

On the issue of the Lagos FA Chairmanship tussle, he stated that football issues should be followed strictly by its rules and mechanism.

He called for the total elimination of politics in Nigeria football which he said has been the bane of the growth and development of the round leather game of football in the country.

“He wrote that non of us have the right to call for congress and if we are calling for congress, he is not going to come. He said that EFCC are inviting him on that day of congress but he didn’t give us proof of invitation. This man went to court with 8 lawyers and you know football matters can’t be taken to court except that you have exhausted your internal mechanism. Nobody was served and nobody signed original copy received by me.

“Football will grow very massive if everybody will take away politics from it. I have learnt my lesson with this issue of Lagos FA and the NFF learnt their lessons. Football will only make sense if we take away politics from it. We just need to follow those technocrats who know about this job.”
