Okechukwu Chukwu scored his first league goal of the season with a stunning free kick As Abia Comets extended its unbeaten run to eight matches.
The impressive midfielder had a man of the match performance for Comets’ when he struck home a delightful free kick, in the 34th minute to put the hosts 1-0 ahead as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Comets.
In the second half, the hosts continued her dominance in search of the winner after the visitors pulled out a shocking equalizer in the 75th minute.
Comets had more of the ball possession as Emeka Maduka, Jesam Uket and Jonah James all came close for Comets in the final 25 minutes of the game but nothing could separate both sides as the game ended in a 1-1 draw, in a Matchday 13 encounter, at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
With the draw, Comets still maintained its unbeaten record (Eight matches) for the first time in the club history and still on the sixth position on the Southern Conference Group A log on 19 points from 13 games.
The team will resume training on Monday, to continue its preparations ahead of Tuesday’s State Federations Cup Round 16 tie against Miracle FC in Abaya, Aba.
Comets will be on the road next Saturday, to face Dakkada FC, in a Matchday 14 encounter, at the Uyo Township Stadium.
