Resilient Naze Millionaires ambush Venue’s Pride in Lafia

Heartland FC will contend with old foes and current Nigeria Premier Football League leaders, Lobi Stars on Sunday at the Lafia City Stadium with the three points at stake in a Matchday 21 tie.

The first leg played in Owerri ended 2-2 on September 30th, 2023 in the 2023-24 season’s opener played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium. The Pride of Benue were in electrifying mood especially in the first half of that game but the never say die spirit of Naze Millionaires came to the fore in the second half and Patrick Nwogbaga and Ezekiel Bassey scored late in the game to rescue a point.

Both teams have a point to prove on Sunday in Lafia. Heartland FC are in the hunt for premier League survival and are eager to record positive result while Lobi Stars are also seeking to make amends after the 2-1 loss to Plateau United in Jos.

Heartland FC are buoyed by the arrival of new players like Malachy Ohawume (Enugu Rangers), Darlintin Ovunda (Shooting Stars), Barnabas Ingya (Enugu Rangers), Ugochukwu Leonard (Enugu Rangers), Chukwuebuka Ogbonna (Kano Pillars), Moses Ugwu (Niger Tornadoes), Chinedu Ozor (Enugu Rangers), Esobe Chukwudi (Enyimba), Leo Charcoal (Abia Warriors), Peter Momoh (Niger Tornadoes) and a host of others have promised an improved performance in the game with the second placed Lobi Stars if they get game time.

Heartland and Lobi Stars have so far met each other 26 times in the topflight as per FCtables Lobi Stars and Heartland FC shared 10 victories apiece while the remaining six have ended in draws.

Heartland FC Technical Adviser, Christian Obi told his players that it won’t be business as usual and that he expects them to fire on all cylinders to ensure the team gets a positive result in Lafia.

Obi who said this while addressing the players in team talk admonished them to put all emphasis on the game and ensure they remain focused for the duration of the game.

“We didn’t play well in the home game with Kano Pillars but we must put that behind us and be ready for Lobi Stars. It can be a favoured ground for us if we take the game seriously and play with focused minds,” Obi told the players.
