The Commissioner, Lagos State Police Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered a probe into a N2 million bribery allegation against the Divisional Police Officer, Epe Police Division, Godwin Okoruwa.
The Command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development on his X handle on Monday.
This was just as Okoruwa has been asked to “step aside” to allow for proper investigation.
The Eagle Online is reporting that this followed the publication of a story on Sunday in which the DPO was accused of receiving a N2 million bribe from a monarch in Epe area of Lagos State to release some suspected armed robbers.
The armed robbers were reportedly nabbed by detectives from Epe Police Division.
Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, tweeted on his X handle on Monday: “CP Adegoke Fayoade has ordered an investigation into the allegations contained in this publication.
“Pending the outcome of the investigation and on the instructions of the CP, the DPO has stepped aside.
“Meanwhile, we can confirm that the suspects were transferred to the headquarters the same day they were arrested, and there is no truth in the claim that the DPO was queried.”
