NPFL 24: Sporting Lagos hold Akwa United as Remo Stars overcome Rangers Int’l


Newly promoted side in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, Sporting Lagos continued their fine form to the start of the 2023/2024 NPFL season after holding Akwa United to a goalless draw in Uyo, Wakawaka Sports Extra reports.

Christian Nwoke’s superb goalkeeping was just enough to get the ‘Noisy Lagosians’ the point against Coach Fatai Osho side.

Elsewhere, Remo Stars came from a goal down to beat Rangers Int’l of Enugu in a pulsating game in Ikenne after Kazeem Ogunleye had given the visitors the lead in the 7th minute.

However, Seun Ogunribide came to the rescue for Remo Stars when he guided the ball home in the 35th minute after Samad Kadiri dummied a Sodiq Ismail’s cross.

The Sky Blue Stars got the winner from Sikiru Alimi, who expertly headed home a Sodiq Ismail’s cross in the 52nd minute as Fidelis Ilechukwu side tested defeat for the first time in the league.

In Lafia, it was a five-goal thriller as Lobi Stars in their adopted home, got the better of Sunshine Stars by 3-2 to remain unbeaten so far in the 2023/2024 league season.

Other results include; Doma United 2-0 Bayelsa United Bendel Insurance 2-0 3SC of Ibadan; Kano Pillars 1-0 Katsina United; Gombe United 2-0 Enyimba Int’l; Kwara United 1-0 Abia Warriors; Niger Tornadoes 1-0 Rivers United and Plateau United 1-0 Heartland FC.

Meanwhile, Sporting Lagos and Lobi Stars are the joint table toppers on four points, closely followed by Bendel Insurance and Doma United on three points respectively.
