Coach Emmanuel Amunike
Former Nigeria International and Head of Coach of Zanaco FC, Emmanuel Amunike, said his aims to pick up a continental ticket for his side in the Zambia Super League.
Amunike in an interview with Wakawaka Sports Extra said he was able to collaborate and harmonise with the players he met on ground, which has seen the team rose from 12th to the 5th position.
According to him, the league doesn’t guarantee a home win basis rather the level of work put up by the team adding that he is happy with the progress so far.
Amunike’s side were 3-2 victors over visiting Nkana Red Devils during the weekend, which has earned them the 5th position as they aim to finish in a better position at the end of the season.
The Lusaka-based side has won the Zambia Super League on seven occasions and aims to attain glory under the reign of Amunike.
“The most thing is that we have the privilege to come to Zambia. Like I have always told them here, I have played against Zambia but has never privileged to come to Zambia but today we are in Zambia. Myself and Emeka Amadi with Zanaco FC.
“When we came here, the team was actually in 12th position. The important thing with the collaboration of the guys we met on ground, we were able to have a direct chat and pathway and look at how we can improve the team.
“We are in 5th position. We just have two to three points difference from the person in third place. We are looking forward to the league. It’s a very interesting league because when you go through the table, you can see that most of the teams, there is no much distance between each other but the important thing is that we are there.
We have been able to put into ourselves into the position of inspiring ourselves to see if we can pick continental. We are happy that the people we met on ground the players in question, they ar open to learning and growth.
“We are working with them. It’s a league that there is no guarantee about you playing at home. It all depends on the level of work you put into your team and the level of preparation of the game you bring onboard for your team to be able to execute the game.
“Today we played a very tough game. We could easily categorised it as a traditional team which is Nkana Red Devils, very tough team but it was rainy heavily which made it difficult for both teams.
“We were leading in the first half two nil but towards the end of the first half, they were able to equalise one and in the second half towards 15minutes to go, they equalised. Of course we were able to push back and got the third goal that gave us the possibility of having 31 points overall and being in the 5th position.
“We are focused in what we are doing. This is the path we have chosen. We are in Zambia and trying to grow in where we have planted today. We are happy with what we are doing and where we have found ourselves.”
