. Calls for Investigation, Punishment of Culprits
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Imo State Chapter, has in strong terms, condemned the attack at the Akaokwa residence of the Spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and the PDP Candidate for Ideato Federal Constituency Seat in the 2023 election, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikegwonu, where many vehicles, houses and other valuable property were burnt, many persons killed and maimed by suspected gunmen who were heavily armed.
The carnage happened in the early hours of Saturday, 14th Day of January, 2023.
The council regretted that the carnage at Ikenga’s home was uncalled for and wondered why human beings with full blood could commit arson, murder against innocent individuals who voiced out against ills going on in the country especially as they regard politics and the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Supreme Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, from detention by the federal government.
Ikenga, being one of the active and fearless activists in Imo State and the South East at large, who believes firmly in the rule of law, the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, fair democracy, human dignity (freedom), justice, peace and a prosperous society for all persons, did not offend any person to warrant the gruesome attack.
In the same vein, the council has frowned at the attack in some parts of Aba Branch in Ehime Mbano and Isiala Mbano local government areas of Imo State on the same day by suspected gunmen.
NYCN as the supreme youth body in the state is worried over the worsening insecurity in the state and called for a stop.
However, in the interest of democracy and people’s dignity, peace and relaxation, NYCN call on the federal government, DSS, police, army, civil defense to quickly launch a thoroughly unbiased investigation to uncover those behind the carnage, as well as punish them in accordance to the law of the state to stop further attack.
