Imo philanthropist High Chief Kingsley Onukaogu mourns as explosion kills 100 in Imo

Owerri, April. 25, 2022 (NAN) An Imo philanthropist and business mogul, High Chief Kingsley Onukaogu (Duke of Obowo) has expressed concern over the Imo refinery explosion which claimed no fewer than 110 lives and described the incident as painful but avoidable disaster.

Onukaogu, also the President General Imo Union South -Africa conveyed his condolence to the victims families while speaking with newsmen on the incident on Monday.

It will be recalled that an illegal refinery situated at Abaeze community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government exploded at the early hours of Saturday and killed no fewer than 100 people.

National Emergency Management Agency NEMA on Monday disclosed that more dead bodies were recovered in Orashi River near the scene of the incident, while some died at various hospitals, bringing the casualty figure to 110.

However, Onukaogu said “I deeply condole with the victims families and the entire Ohaji/Egbema Local Government.

“This is a big loss to Imo, we have lost many of our youths to this ugly incident, the disaster was available but this must serve as deterrent to other youths”, he said.

Onukaogu prayed for the repose of souls of the dead, while consoling the victims families to bear the loss with fortitude.
