The Imo government has reassured residents of the state of its commitment to the provision of social services in line with its 3R mantra of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery.

Special Adviser to Gov. Hope Uzodiama on Political Matters, Dr Batos Nwadike stated this at the launch of a Volunteer Center and Local Advice Service Program, a private sector driven initiative in Owerri on Monday.

Nwadike who lauded the initiative described it as timely considering the teeming population of the state and the challenges it posed with regard to provision of social services for everyone.

He identified social services as vital for the smooth day to day running of the state and thanked the initiators of the program for their forethought.

” One of the main objectives of this administration is the provision of social infrastructure and services for our teeming population.

” We are grateful to the initiators of this program and we assure that we will be there when it will be unveiled at Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area on November 12 “, he said.

Speaking to Silvernews, founder and coordinator of the program, Mr Mark Eke said it had been in existence in some parts of the world for a long period.

According to him, the program was introduced in Imo out of the belief in the state government’s willingness to partner with the facilitators of the programme in fulfilling its social contract with the people.

He called on government to assist with funding for the program so as to better ensure its success.

Also, Eke’s special assistant, Mr Kelechi Onyema and one of the participant at the lunch Nze eugene Nwachukwu said that the program would help elongate the lives of its beneficiaries.

He identified non affordability of basic social services as a problem in the state and assured that the program would provide such services to the masses at a reduced cost every day of the week.
