The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Imo State chapter, has been drawn to another utterly mischievous statement credited to former Senator Samuel Nneamaka Anyanwu, a chieftain of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and an aspirant to the office of the national secretary of the party.
Ordinarily, our party would have glossed over the said publication for its obvious contractions and lack of particularity, but for the fact that it is capable of misleading undiscerning members of public.
It’s most unfortunate that the former senator who represented Imo East (otherwise known as Owerri zone) in the national assembly has opened a 2023 political campaign using a very critical and sensitive issue like the insecurity and lost of lives of our innocent citizens particularly that of our revered traditional rulers in Njaba LGA.
Samdaddy, in a trending message signed by his media aide, Ikenna Onuohia, noted that the PDP would solve the security challenges when it takes over the leadership of the country in 2003. While we do not intend to remind the Ikeduru born politician that it was under the PDP led administration that all the current central fugal forces bearing their fangs first reared their urgly heads, it is an incontrovertible truth that insecurity in Nigeria is a creation of PDP, which is being squarely dealt with by the APC administration.
The records are there and the facts still reveal that the same PDP Samdaddy is invoking for remedy, was in power when all the triangular demons of Boko Haram, banditry and kidnappers regrettably turned Nigeria into a theatre of criminals and criminality.
Our party consider the attempt by Senator Anyanwu and his cohorts to turn the unfortunate incident in Njaba LGA into a campaign instrument as grossly insensitive and disrespectful to the sensibilities of the families of the victims. We can’t lose our sense of humanity in the name of politics. There is time for everything.
It is regrettable and unfortunate that an incident that calls for solemnity and soberity could be amplified into a campaign tool, which is capable of compromising the fragile security situation in the state.
We had expected Senator Anyanwu and his political party to condemn outright the dastardly act and every attempt by unscrupulous elements to undermine the effort of the current administration in the state, but unfortunately, that would not be.
As it is, we understand why Samdaddy suddenly got involved in this unholy enterprise. The PDP is having its national convention this weekend and our dear senator emeritus is up for the position of national secretary of the party. He needs all the media hype and this paradoxical venture he exhibited herein is one of his tactics towards oiling his strategies for victory. It is rather needless to cast aspersions on our party to achieve this narrow interest.
The truth is that our party share in the sentiments of Imolites in particularly and Nigerians in general in the face of these security challenges, and we are optimistic that the solutions being put in place by the APC led government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in collaboration with relevant security agencies will yield the desired result for the best interest of the good people of Imo State.
While we caution Anyanwu and his like, it is important we remind them of this important adage “A man who throws pebbles into the market, may not known, on whose head the stone will hit” A word is enough for the wise!!
Signed
CAJETAN DUKE
STATE PUBLICITY SECRETARY
APC IMO STATE.
