Silversports Football Club has recorded another milestone following the invitation of two of its players to the Imo State team ahead of preparations for the forthcoming FirstBank/Samuel Okwaraji U-16 Championship.
The development was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Mr. Kennedy Onwunali, while leading the players to the state team’s training camp.
The two invited players, Valentine Odu and David Anyamele, have been selected for the Imo State U-16 team for the forthcoming FirstBank/Samuel Okwaraji U-16 Championship, where they will represent the state at the national competition. Valentine Odu is the captain of Silversports FC, while David Anyamele finished as the club’s top scorer in the 2026 Imo State FA League, scoring two goals in three matches.
The invitation is another recognition of the club’s commitment to youth development. Founded in 2010, Silversports FC has continued to nurture young talents, providing them with opportunities to develop their football careers.
Despite fielding the youngest squad in the 2026 Imo State FA League, Silversports FC earned widespread admiration for their fearless performances throughout the season. The team recorded victories, suffered defeats, and played draws, but consistently impressed supporters with their exciting brand of football.
According to Mr. Onwunali, the invitation of the players is part of the club’s vision to expose talented footballers from Mbaise and its neighbouring communities to higher levels of competition, creating opportunities for them to showcase their abilities and progress to the next stage of their football careers.
He added that the club remains committed to identifying and developing young talents from Mbaise and surrounding areas through training matches and participation in football tournaments across Nigeria.
As part of its development programme, Silversports FC will also participate in the Afrisportpro Competition, which kicks off today in Kano State. The club will also feature in other football engagements within Mbaise, Imo State, and beyond, while preparing for the forthcoming Imo State football competitions scheduled for September.
The club believes that continuous participation in competitive tournaments will further enhance the development of its young talents and prepare them for professional football careers.
