Former Nigerian international striker, John Owoeri, has thrown his weight behind Heartland FC head coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, calling on the club’s supporters and football stakeholders to give the experienced tactician the necessary support ahead of the new Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
Owoeri, who spoke on the rebuilding efforts at the Owerri-based club, described Amuneke as a “great person,” expressing confidence that the former Super Eagles star can deliver positive results if given the backing he needs.
He’s a great person. All he needs is support from the fans and the people, and I believe everything will be fine,” Owoeri said.
The former Flying Eagles forward, who enjoyed an extensive playing career in Nigeria and abroad, featured for several top Nigerian clubs, including Bendel Insurance, Sunshine Stars, Warri Wolves, Enyimba and Heartland.
He also had spells with clubs across Europe, Asia and Africa, gaining valuable experience at different levels of the game.
With Heartland preparing for another campaign in the NNL, Owoeri believes the addition of experienced players, particularly quality strikers, will strengthen the team’s chances of securing promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
He urged the club’s supporters and other stakeholders to remain united behind the team as the Naze Millionaires seek to return to Nigeria’s top-flight football.
