The Nigeria National League (NNL) has announced that its 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on August 21, 2026.
In a circular dated August 4, 2026, and signed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, the NNL disclosed that approval had been granted by the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for the state to host the league’s annual gathering.
According to the circular addressed to all State Football Associations and chairmen of NNL clubs, delegates are expected to arrive on August 20, while the AGM will commence at 10:00 a.m. on August 21. Departure has been scheduled for August 22.
The league also stated that details of the exact venue of the meeting and accommodation arrangements would be communicated to participants in due course.
The Annual General Meeting is expected to bring together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s second-tier football league to review the outgoing season, deliberate on key issues affecting the league, and chart the course for the 2026/27 campaign.
Football lovers in Owerri have welcomed the decision to stage the AGM in Imo State, describing it as another indication that the state is steadily emerging as a major destination for sports and football administration in Nigeria. They attributed the development to the commitment of Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma and the efforts of former African Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amunike, MFR, the Imo State Sports Ambassador, whose drive to reposition the state’s sports ecosystem is attracting major national sporting events.
Many stakeholders believe the hosting of the NNL Annual General Meeting further strengthens Imo State’s reputation as a growing hub for football development and sports administration, while showcasing the state’s readiness to host high-profile sporting programmes.
