Kingsley Uduh/Anambra Open Tennis Championship Strokes Off October 17

The maiden edition of the Chief Kingsley Uduh/Anambra Open Tennis Championship will hold from October 17 to 18, 2026, at the City Sports Club tennis courts in Amawbia, Awka.

The two-day tournament is sponsored by Chief Kingsley Uduh, Chairman of the Anambra State Tennis Association and a member of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) Board, representing the five South-East states.
According to Uduh, the championship is aimed at reviving tennis in Anambra State, creating awareness and encouraging grassroots participation in the sport.

He also disclosed that the competition would provide an opportunity to identify and prepare players who will represent Team Anambra at the 23rd National Sports Festival, scheduled to take place in Enugu from November 27 to December 11, 2026.

Uduh expressed concern over the declining interest in tennis in the state, stressing the need for deliberate efforts to restore the sport to its former position.

He explained that the championship would serve as a talent identification and preparation platform for Team Anambra players ahead of the National Sports Festival.

Following the tournament, selected players will proceed to camp organised by the state tennis association before joining the state contingent’s camp for the festival.

The Anambra State Tennis Association chairman also called on tennis enthusiasts, stakeholders and prospective sponsors across Anambra State and the South-East to support the development of the sport.

He noted that the association needed collective support to achieve its objective of rebuilding tennis and ensuring its sustainable growth in the state.

Uduh expressed optimism that the maiden championship would mark the beginning of a new chapter for tennis in Anambra State, with increased participation, improved talent development and greater opportunities for players.
