The Chairman of Jigawa State Basketball Association, Prof. MM Abubakar, has commended the Engr. Musa Kida-led board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for what he described as significant achievements in the development of the game, particularly at the grassroots and international levels.
Abubakar, who spoke after the NBBF Extraordinary Congress in Yola, Adamawa State, described the congress as peaceful, despite attempts by some individuals to distract the proceedings.
The Jigawa basketball chief said stakeholders should pay greater attention to the achievements recorded by the outgoing administration, especially in age-grade and international basketball.
Many people have been talking, but nobody spoke about the achievements of the Musa Kida board. They achieved so much in terms of age-grade basketball and international basketball,” Abubakar said.
He noted that the Kida-led administration had taken Nigerian basketball to a level the sport had not reached for a long time, urging the incoming leadership to consolidate the progress already made.
It is our prayer that the next president of the NBBF will look at the achievements of the past board and build on them,” he said.
Abubakar also called for greater unity among stakeholders, stressing the need for an administration that would prioritise the collective development of basketball across the country.
We hope that from this time around, there will not be any internal rancour. We wish to have a free and fair election and then a board that will do what everyone wants to do,” he added.
