Golfers, professionals, dignitaries and sports enthusiasts are expected to converge on Owerri, Imo State, as the Imo Governor’s Cup 2026 Golf Tournament (Pro Invitational) tees off from September 10 to 12, 2026 at the Arsenal Golf and Country Club, Obinze-Owerri.
The three-day championship, organised by the Local Organising Committee, is designed to combine competitive golf with networking, entertainment and the promotion of the new Imo State as captured in the tournament slogan, “Swing and Discover the New Imo.
The tournament programme indicates that activities will commence on Thursday, September 10, with the Caddies and Course Workers Tournament tee-off scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
The main professional event takes centre stage on Friday, September 11, with the Pro Invitational Tournament tee-off at 10:00 a.m. The Ladies category, for golfers with handicaps ranging from 29 to 36, will tee off at 12 noon.
Participants and invited guests will later converge for a Meet and Greet session at 6:00 p.m., an evening expected to feature networking, entertainment and fellowship.
Activities will continue on Saturday, September 12, with a breakfast service at 6:45 a.m., followed by the tee-off for other tournament categories at 7:00 a.m.
The tournament will climax with the Gala and Prize Presentation Night scheduled for 8:00 p.m., where participants and guests are expected to appear in strictly formal attire.
According to the organisers, the competition will be played under the WHS Index Tournament format, with the maximum handicap pegged at 28 for men and 36 for ladies.
Golfers have also been advised to observe the official tournament dress code, which includes the tournament T-shirt, black trousers, shorts or golf skirts and approved golf shoes.
The organisers further cautioned participants about the expected rainy-season conditions in September, advising them to come prepared with umbrellas, rain jackets, gloves and other essential rain accessories.
The Local Organising Committee also reminded participants that “No Show = No Goodie Bag,” stressing the importance of attendance during the tournament.
With a blend of professional competition, social interaction and tourism promotion, the Imo Governor’s Cup 2026 is expected to further position golf as an important component of sports and leisure development in the state.
