Niger Tornadoes coach, Kabiru Dogo, has praised his team’s performance following their 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors in their Matchday 9 encounter of the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Dogo described the victory as a significant achievement for his side, insisting that Niger Tornadoes deserved the result after putting up a better performance against their hosts.
According to the coach, his players executed their game plan effectively against an Abia Warriors side known for its possession-based approach, allowing the visitors to secure all three points in the encounter.
Reflecting on the 90-minute contest, Dogo acknowledged the quality of Abia Warriors but maintained that his team performed better on the day.
He explained that familiarity with the playing philosophies of teams in the NPFL, coupled with preparations based on previous matches, helped Niger Tornadoes identify areas to exploit.
The coach disclosed that his technical crew studied Abia Warriors’ previous game and identified certain weaknesses they hoped to capitalise on during the encounter.
Dogo added that his team deliberately took the fight to the hosts to disrupt their movement and neutralise their attacking threats.
The Niger Tornadoes manager, however, insisted that his team was still a work in progress, despite the important away victory.
We are still coming up, and I cannot say we have arrived. We are still developing, and I believe that with patience, endurance and support, this team has a bright future,” he said.
He attributed his optimism to the composition of the squad, which combines young players with experienced campaigners, expressing confidence that the blend would help the team improve as the season progresses.
Dogo also dedicated the victory to the people of Niger State, acknowledging their support for the club.
The 1-0 win gives Niger Tornadoes an important boost as they continue their campaign in the 2026/2027 NPFL season, while Abia Warriors will be looking to recover from the home defeat in their subsequent fixture.
